Blog Post Assignment #2

Mr. Dancealot

The central message of this video is that people learn better with
visual or physical examples escpesically when it comes to dance. The author is proven his point with this video, because throughout the whole video the professor does not let them see his feet or let them try in class themselves. Then when it comes time for the final nobody knows what dance they are doing or how to perform it because they were not taught properly. Yes, I agree with the conclusion that the video is so clearly giving because most people need visual aid to help them learn how to do something themselves. It is sometimes physically impossible to know how to do something, if you do not
have a teacher that knows how to teach, escially dance.

Teaching in the 21st Century

Roberts is trying to tell us that teaching is a lot different
that teaching 20 years ago, when most of us were kids. When we were kids there was not anything near a cell phone, laptop, or Ipads. With the kids today, most of them have a cell phone by the 4th grade. Most have IPad by kindergarten if not younger, an as a baby they were probably occupied with their mom's cell phone. All of these things make it harder for teachers to obtain the kids attention with just writing on the board all day or activity sheets. We have to not just "entertain" them as Roberts stated, we have to find ways to "engage" students more in the classroom because
technology is how they entertain and teach themselves at home.

He is correct on how teaching kids these days is different.
They are all raised with technology, so you have to evolve technology in your teaching. All kids want to do is play games typically on a IPad. As a teacher you need to come up with activity's or games for the kids were they can be "engaged"
with what your teaching them.

The Networked Student By: Wendy Dexler

The average student needs visual aid to help them
understand what they are doing. The teacher is here for This They show examples and give proper instructions on the assignment. Without teachers most would be lost in the world and uneducated. Teachers are not given
enough credit for what they do in a classroom.

Harness Your Students Digital Smarts

Does media need to be taught more in schools?
Media is growing in many ways, and yes media can teach students many things. It helps them create new skills for life that I was not taught as a kid. Blogs is one of the many things that is starting to become a new trend. What she is teaching in the students is her way of teaching in the 21st century and that is great. The curriculum has to change
and so do the way teachers teach.

Who's ahead in the race?

Dr. Strange's video points out a lot of things as a undergraduate. Students in the 21st century classes all have MacBooks in Baldwin County. They are in the 3rd grade and are doing things I have never even heard of and I'm 21 and a junior in college. Hands down the elementary students are ahead! They are learning things that weren't even heard of when I was their age. We were learning how to write in cursive and they are learning how to do blogs. Yes I give them a high five. Its great that they are learning such so young because I don't know what
i'm doing!

Flipping the Classroom

Yes flipping the classroom is new to me. Hopefully
I will not have to ever use this method of teaching when I become a teacher. I think as a teacher your job is to teach the students the materials they will need to know in life. This way of teaching is taken that away. Making the students teach themselves is not the way to go about things. I know for me I need to be visually shown how to do something sometimes. I am not good at teaching myself, so I can only imagine how younger students feel. I disagree with this completely. There is a line that needs to be drawn with technology and this is it. It makes teachers seem lazy./
The core word in teachers is to teach!

  1. Heather,
I know from experience in dance, it is nearly impossible to learn without actually practicing the moves. I know as a teacher, I want to incorporate art into my classroom with lessons. This is a fun way for students to be hands on and learn even more.
Also, as you stated, teachers have to involve technology with teaching. Students will have to learn how to use technology due to it only becoming more and more important in society.

  2. Your comments about Vicki Davis seem off base to me. Yo never mention her name and what you have written makes little sense when reflecting on her video. Did you watch her video? I do not think so from what you have written.

"I think as a teacher your job is to teach the students the materials they will need to know in life.' What do you mean by this? What materials?

'This way of teaching is taken that away." taking, not taken Why do you think flipping the classroom is taking something away from students?

"Making the students teach themselves is not the way to go about things." That is the central way EDM310 works. So are you in trouble?

"I know for me I need to be visually shown how to do something sometimes." Where might you find these visual demonstrations if they are not offered in your class? Identify something you want or need to learn where a "visual example" would improve your learning. Now seek to find that "visual example." What did you do? How successful was your search? Write a blog post telling others how to find "visual examples or demonstrations" by providing details of this effort. Blog post due by midnight Sunday September 21 at midnight. Give it an appropriate tile and then add Special Blog Assignment to the title. In the post itself answer this question: Did I just have to do something I think is improper? (Remember this is what you wrote here: "Making the students teach themselves is not the way to go about things.")

"The core word in teachers is to teach!" And just exactly what does that mean? As I pointed out in class I had one student tell me "Dr. Strange I just want you to teach me so I don't have to learn!" Is your statement the same as that student's request?
